Morris Dancers with Guns?

I really love these miniatures from the Woodbine Design Company.  I'm not exactly how to use them in 1938 VBCW but I'm sure that I'll find a way, even if they're just a GM controlled force to mix things up a little!

Lord Percy's Peasant Shooting Party

This was the first 1938 VBCW force that I started and is still my favourite although I'd expect it to be nigh on useless on the battlefield I love the potential fluff for it!  Basically, Lord Percy Duker of Northumberland has assembled a motley crew of his shooting chums, gameskeepers and servants to deal with whatever needs dealing with.  Most notably dealing with the gastly oiks of the Ashington Coal Collective.

The miniatures are a mixture of Musketeer Miniatures and the Woodbine Design Company by Gripping Beast.  I love these miniatures and just wish that I could do them justice with the paintjob.

If you've got this far then thank you!  I'd appreciate any thoughts as to how you feel Lord Percy might align himself.  I would assume towards the Monarchy but would it be Edward or Albert?  Or would he see the Civil War as a chance to re-establish the Kingdom of Northumbria?

The BUF

I've just finished my BUF cavalry from Reiver castings so I thought that I'd finally get round to basing up the rest of my nasty little fascists.  I then thought, why not take a few photos of the whole force?  So I did.  Then I remembered the new half track that I finished the other day, just after I'd finished taking photos.  Hey ho.  I'll grab them all out of the cupboard another day.

This force consists of 3 x 8 man section, 5 man platoon command group and 11 lance armed cavalry.

Of course there is one more chap, Cirencester himself.  Unfortunately I believe that he's rather tied up down in Worcestershire and so rather unlikely to be seen too often in Northumberland.

The Royal Mail Rocket Post & Mutton Chops Street Furniture

Just finished the Royal Mail Rocket Post team by Musketeer Miniatures and the street furniture from Mutton Chop Miniatures.  Well, actually I haven't strictly speaking finished the telephone box.  I can't paint letters for toffee so I've got to find my decal paper and make some decals at the weekend.

I was of the opinion that the Royal Mail van was a complete steal off Ebay until I realised that it was actually marked with the crest of George VI rather than George V.  It's a bit difficult to have something in 1938 VBCW which aligns to George VI . . . . . .

BUF Transport Option

I've got some cavalry on the go for my BUF force and I was contemplating what vehicles they could have.  I've assumed that there might well be some equipment finding it's way into their hands from Germany and when rifling through my cupboards I found an unbuilt kit of a Luftwaffe Kettenkrafttrad in 1/48 scale by Tamiya.  The figures in this set even had the same chip bag hats that all my BUF types have.  I decided that an unarmed halftrack wouldn't serve much purpose, however by mounting an MG34 onto the back it could be used for all sorts of devilish fascism.  It's currently undercoated and awaiting the main paint job.  I appreciate that this vehicle was not actually brought into service until 1939 but I reckon that it's just about plausible for an R&D version to find its way into BUF hands for field evaluation during VBCW.

The Croydon Crusher

What a fabulous miniature!  The Croydon Crusher is a motor quad bike thingy from Mutton Chop Miniatures complete with handle bar mounted machine gun!  I ordered this on Thursday night and it arrived today which is excellent customer service.  The casting quality is absolutely fabulous, there was virtually no flash at all.  I needed to refer to the website to work out what went where but it went together in about five minutes with a spot of superglue and accelerator for good measure it was all together and ready for spraying.  I'll be trying to get it painted tomorrow and will try to get some pics up.  Not sure about the paint scheme though.  This will be used by my British Militia so I don't want to make it too military.  I'm torn between a British Racing Green or Sports Car red gloss finish.  The dark grey finish on the Mutton Chops website is very appropriate to the period but a little mour dour than I think this wonderful miniature deserves!

Here's the chap all undercoated and ready for painting.  The rider is not glued down yet as it'll be easier to paint him separate to the quad itself.

Musketeer Miniatures

I absolutely love this range of miniatures.  Among their various collections is a fantastic range designed for the Irish War of Independance and better still, 1938 A Very British Civil War.  I've now collected a large selection from this range.  They're really well sculpted, well cast and rather good value.   They paint up really well, even with my fat fingers holding the brush.  Personal favourites for me are the roller skating courier and the Royal Mail Rocket Post team. 

Welcome to Modest Miniatures

Modest Miniatures is new to the blogging world.  Basically a young(ish) RAF Officer has far more miniatures than his good wife is able to tolerate in a single married quarter so on occasion he is forced to sell bits and bobs to make space for the latest must have bit of white metal or plastic resin.

Additionally this blog might just offer you the odd insight into things that I've found around the internet that have captured my interest and so will hopefully catch your interest too.
